This triptych shares the story of deciduous leaves that give fall its iconic colors. Each of the three artworks shares a stage in the leaves’ story over the fall season and their importance for ecosystem survival leading into the cold winter months. Each piece is letterpress printed with metal ornaments & border rule and carved MDF, linoleum & oak plywood. The final piece also includes an experimental torn paper block. The first piece on the left, Misty Mornings, references the cool air that sweeps in and how that is the first sign for the deciduous trees to begin letting go of their leaves. The second piece,Shedding Shades, illustrates the trees shedding their leaves as a method of energy conservation throughout the cold winter. The third piece, Living Layers, shows the importance of the leaves on the ground acting as a natural mulch, feeding the soil below and acting as a vital wildlife habitat over winter. I hope this piece encourages you to leave the leaves instead of raking them!
