My inspiration for making the Activist Alphabet was a desire to do what I could to help. I feel I am on a journey to create an alert and learn more about the causes of climate change.
The first letters I made were very shouty and inspired by protest banners. Stop Funding The oil Industry or Capitalism is Causing Climate Change.
As the Alphabet has grown I have read more and made assessments, its become obvious to me that climate change is about a crisis of human relationships, relationships with each other and our relationship with nature.
The letters themselves are cardboard collagraph plates. I work at the GPC Gloucestershire printmaking Co-op in UK. The co-op has a small range of letterpress letters that have starred in theses works.
I was inspired by research into how fungi connect between plants providing food, water and sharing information in a reciprocal way.
My thoughts were that if we were to come through this climate crisis we would need to take our lead from nature
